Start here
Ask for a schedule that names the decisions, approvals, and deliveries behind each milestone, beginning before construction.
Start the conversation before site work
Ask for a schedule that starts with property review and design. Add a place for selections, approval questions, and ordering decisions before marking a construction start. Treat an early target date as a question to work through with the project team.
Montgomery County residential permitting says incomplete submissions will be rejected. For a county application, use the current checklist and ask who will check the packet before submission.
In Willis, the Building Permits and Inspection Division issues building, fire, and construction permits and handles associated inspections. Ask that office which steps apply to your project before assigning dates to them.
Give every milestone a decision owner
Use the following as a meeting agenda, then ask the builder to arrange the sequence for your project. Do not assign a generic number of weeks to each item.
- Property review, survey questions, and design decisions.
- Engineering, application documents, and approvals.
- Site work and foundation planning.
- Framing, enclosure, and trade coordination.
- Interior selections, installation, and completion review.
Ask what the next date depends on
For each milestone, ask what must be decided, who owns that decision, and when the team should review progress. Include delivery confirmation and questions about weather in the discussion. Request an updated schedule when the scope changes.
Bring your desired timing to our custom home building discussion. Ask us to separate your preferred dates from dates supported by the agreed scope and project information.
Questions to bring to the conversation
Can I plan around a move-in month now?
Share the month you have in mind, then ask the builder to identify the assumptions behind any proposed date. Keep unresolved approvals and selections visible in that discussion.
How should we track changes?
Ask for a dated update that records the change, the decision owner, and the proposed effect on the schedule. Keep the earlier version for comparison.
